Role and Responsibilities
Network Development Strategy & Route Performance Management
- Own and define the airline’s short- and long-term network development strategy, shaping market expansion, fleet utilisation, and growth priorities
- Develop and maintain a multi-year network plan, including capacity, fleet, and slot requirements
- Lead the annual Budget Operating Plan process and issue Revised Operating Plans throughout the year to reflect network changes
- Manage slot portfolios and traffic rights to support network growth objectives
- Design and deliver seasonal schedules aligned with network strategy, maximising revenue and optimising aircraft and resource deployment
- Continuously optimise route performance through analysis of market trends, competitive dynamics, and financial returns
- Evaluate existing routes and new destination opportunities with Commercial teams to ensure optimal deployment decisions
- Strengthen analytics capability across the team, including route forecasting, schedule optimisation, and capacity planning
- Present route strategies and business cases to senior management for endorsement
- Act as the key interface between network planning and other corporate stakeholders to ensure alignment and execution
Cross-functional Coordination
- Chair cross-departmental Resource Planning Meetings to align commercial, operational, finance, and support functions
- Coordinate new route launches and flight additions, ensuring readiness across crew, maintenance, fleet availability, ground handling, and commercial teams
- Oversee day-to-day coordination with operational teams to ensure smooth execution of scheduled and ad-hoc operations
- Support operational readiness for new destinations, including scheduled and short-term charter services
- Embed operational resilience into network and schedule design while maintaining profitability
Fleet Planning
- Champion cost-efficient fleet planning decisions aligned with a simplified low-cost operating model
- Lead scenario planning for fleet growth, including aircraft economics, lifecycle cost, and deployment strategies
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration on all fleet-related initiatives
External Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with governments, airports, regulators, and industry bodies across Asia
- Engage with airports on potential new destinations, incentives, and commercial discussions to support business cases
- Represent the airline at industry forums such as slot conferences, route development events, and air services negotiations
- Work closely with Corporate Affairs and regulatory teams to support traffic rights and air services agreement strategies
Team Management & People Leadership
- Manage and be accountable for the Network Planning team’s cost budget
- Communicate strategy clearly, mentor team members, and support professional development
- Play an active role in talent selection, succession planning, and high-potential employee development
- Foster an entrepreneurial, data-driven, and performance-oriented team culture
- Build a cohesive, motivated, and modern network planning team aligned with company values
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of commercial airline experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role within network planning
- Low-cost carrier experience is highly preferred
- Proven track record of leading teams in a complex, matrixed organisation
- Bachelor’s degree in a numerate discipline or MBA
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Proficiency in Mandarin and/or other Asian languages is an advantage
